"Gramma, I wish you could come out here and tell me some stories to get my mind off of things." That request came our 18 year old grandson, Dave, battling bone cancer since 2003. A foundation in Arizona got him there to spend 7 weeks getting radiation and immune support treatments. A few hours before Dave called I got an early Christmas gift via a couple who called to offer a ticket to Scottsdale if I wanted to go see Dave! Of course Gramma said yes!
Now I know why I am so short. Dave found I fit right under his arm so he could lean on me. (the radiation treatments made him weak and exhausted). The clinic and foundation did some interviewing of Dave and a young lady, and their families. He did a great job, and was calm and clearly expressed his faith as well as the appreciation for the many personal touches made by the staff and foundation.
Good news! The cancer stopped growing and we've seen visible evidence it is shrinking. Dave is also able to eat more and is gaining strength and energy again.
We're home for Christmas, and will be going back in 10-14 days. We're talking about driving out this time, as the car rental charges are huge out there (with about 37% taxes added on), and you just can't keep that up for 4-6 weeks at a time. I think we can make it in 2 days from Wisconsin- we'll be mapping out a course soon.
