Exercise today was on the treadmill and with that and daily activities, I burned 469 calories more than what I consumed. How do I know that? WBD or Weight-by-Date, a lovely computer program that calculates calories (eaten and burned off), carbs, protein, etc. and updates progress with weight and inches. It was just what this type A person needed - a way to see what I was consuming and burning during the day and the ability to visualize what I had "left" in my daily calorie count. The program has 40,000 foods listed, and allows entering new foods and combining foods into recipes, so next time I have that food (like my favorite Cottage Cheese breakfast or today's casserole) I can just choose the recipe and add it to the day's journal. The encouragement of seeing the pounds and inches lost increases the drive to keep on keeping on, and a nice young woman even cheers for me when I lose 2# in a week : ) The program also works on my PDA, so I will have it with me to document when on vacation, if the camera misses anything. No matter what food plan you use, the age-old rule is still the bottom line. If you want to lose weight, you have to burn more calories than you consume. Weight-by-Date is a great assistant to that goal, and they even offer a 15 day free trial download. www.WeightByDate.com
Breakfast: Cottage Cheese breakfast with 1/2 bananna, raspberries and Ezekiel bread with Cashew Butter (Trader Joe's).
Lunch: Spelt pasta primavera (from yesterday) with chicken sausage. 1/2 cucumber wedged.
Dinner: Casenifla Casserole - For those of you who haven't heard of Casenifla it is something like ravioli or perogi pouches filled with a mixture of cottage cheese (regular or dried), eggs, onions, and seasoning to taste. Rather than making the dough, stuffing and then boiling them, (though they are wonderful served with bread crumbs toasted in butter and half-and-half as a sauce), I made a casserole of the filling. Two cartons of Dean's Probiotic Cottage Cheese, 6 eggs, chopped onion to taste, Celtic salt and tarragon for 5 servings. Side is rice cooked in almond milk and raspberry juice. Dessert taste served on a bed of lettuce. Hubby was so happy with dinner, I'll have to cut my portion for tomorrow and hide it in the back of the fridge!
Love for my spouse grows when I place his pleasure and happiness before my own. It is an easy thing to do because I know he loves me the way the Lord does - that he would never purposely intend to hurt me or my (sometimes overly tender) feelings. Spending daily time at the Lord's Table also reveals to me God's constant thoughts and preparation and plans for my life, and causes me to fall deeper in love with the Lord. I hope you know what it feels like to be in love and to know that that person wants only what is best for you and your ultimate happiness. Knowing this about God releases me to trust His heart and His Word, and his revealed truths about all I need to do to take care of my body, His temple. Genesis 1:29 tells me some of the things that I can and should eat: " Then God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be food for you;" My lesson is that God made every herb that bears seeds, and every fruit tree that bears seeds, for His people. Not every green plant is an herb and not every tree has fruit to be eaten. The animals get a different menu. (Genesis 1:30). Once again, His loving care and provision is clearly revealed. I'll plan to share some of those herbs and fruits with you soon.
I have a feeling this lesson is a foundation for me as there will likely be things in the world that could compromise my immune system, and my health. I've already discovered that some things that were created good for my body have had the life processed right out of it, and I am determined to avoid those things as much as possible. More on that tomorrow - along with another restaurant luncheon.
