What fun today to celebrate birthdays of several family members and several generations. I feel blessed at the closeness of our family and the preciousness of this time together as our family expands. I have many families in my life - my husband and our children. Their spouses and their children. Their children's spouses and their children. The families of all of these combinations of our family, plus our church family who have proven as dear and close as those related by our blood. Some of those close family-friendships have lasted generations.
The closest relationship I have is with Elohim K'rovim - The Close God. I was asked for some pronunciation of the Hebrew names so - the e is prounced eh as in get. The i is pronounced ee as in see. Eh-lo-heem K row-veem. Psalm 145:18 The LORD is near (Elohim K'rovim) to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth." Isn't that a wonderfully comforting thought that God is close to us at all times? The word near actually translates to come close, to draw close. God is near because He is everywhere, but He is close, because He chooses to be - he comes close to us - he draws or "causes to move in a particular direction as by inherent influence or attraction." It's like when I see my sweetie and am attracted to him, and draw near to him because I want to be close. God is not dependent on my behavior, love, or attention, yet He chooses to make Himself known to me and to draw close.
Amazing.
