Day 90 - nearly 1/4 done - and looking to the King

Melek is the one who will one day come in glory to bringing an eternal kingdom of peace and righteousness.  The Old Testament confirmed that King David was the line from which the ultimate and final forever-king would come. The New Testament presents Jesus, the King of kings, but with all the past generations waiting for a descendant of David's who would subdue its enemies and then rule over the entire earth, even Jesus' disciples thought He was come to establish another earthly kingdom.  How heartbroken and disappointed they must have been to see their hope crucified, and mocked as the 'king of the Jews'.   Yet don't you wonder at their amazement when their King appeared to them after the crucifixion and when they saw him 'taken up into the clouds.'    Malek in Psalm 72:1 (Endow the king with your justice, O God, the royal son with your righteousness.) refers to the 'one on the throne' - the one who is made ruler and king.  The king - the royal son - the one that God has placed on the throne is Jesus.

Oftentimes we, his followers, create a king of our imaginings just as the Jews did - and I know I need to repeatedly face myself with the truth of who the king in Psalm 72 really is.  He is not a spiritual vending machine, waiting for my requests and suggestions.  He is all there is of holiness, justice, love, and mercy. Zechariah 14:9 clarifies it - "The LORD will be king (Melek) over the whole earth. On that day there will be one LORD, and his name the only name."  And Matthew 25:34 personalizes it: "Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world."

No photos today.  I skipped lunch after a funeral service as I knew there were preparations at a Missionary hosting.  I did have a square of rhubarb dessert there, but forgot to take a picture.  Completed the Esther study which has final meeting on Tuesday.  The photo above is the cover from a movie based on the book of Esther.  If you get a chance to watch it, you will be all the more grateful for the Names of our King, and His characteristics as revealed in those names.  A much different king than Esther had to deal with, and the same King that Esther and her people prayed to when they were fasting, and celebrated with at Purim.
