Rich Mullin's song My One Thing was influential in my life. He sang about the One thing he wanted first in his life. The chorus begins
My one thing
You're my one thing
and of course he was singing to the Lord Jesus.
In Deuteronomy 6:4-5 united, altogether, and one-thing are descriptions of Adonai Echad - The Lord is One. The writer says "Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength." The Jewish Bible translates the last portion to read all your being and all your resources, and The Message says, "love him with all that's in you and with all you've got. This verse was also repeated by Jesus in Mark 12:28-30 when the temple instructors asked which was the most important commandment.
Singularity. The first verse of Mullin's song had that same focus:
Everybody I know says they need just one thing
And what they really mean is that they need just one thing more
And everybody seems to think they've got it coming
Well I know that I don't deserve You
Still I want to love and serve You more and more
You're my one thing
To make HIM my One Thing - to realize that Adonai Echad - the LORD only is my God and that He is the One Thing - the only thing - He is all I need. Not one thing more.
It was a lazy day, but a stack of paperwork is completed.
Light lunch was roasted chicken and colorful vegetables, topped with butter-flavored MCT oil. (made from coconut). I got the oil and added 1/2 cap of butter flavor to 8 oz. of oil. It has the full flavor of butter, but my tummy likes it better. The veggies were blanched in Ken's pasta water :) I do enjoy quick cooking. Added right after the pasta, they float on top, and I strain them out after two minutes and continue cooking the pasta.
A light meal with fruit and protein is a treat for me. Pineapple, granola (prefer Natural Ovens) and chopped nuts is great over yogurt or cottage cheese.
