Day 99 - Closeness

Are you retired yet?  Just before my husband took the leap I heard a clever analogy that having a retired husband is kind of like having a grand piano... they are a lovely thing to have, but not in the middle of your kitchen!  Now that we are both retired we are finding that closeness is good - sometimes.  That is said with a chuckle because the only time we don't appreciate closeness is when it impinges on our personal - well - selfishness.  Ken just got advised to drink more water and I knew I was in trouble as my chart-making man was contemplating another way to monitor his intake. There is nothing he likes better than making charts and monitoring them with exactness, unless it is doing it for someone else... you know what is coming.  Comments like "Hey didn't you used to use a chart like this?" and "Let's do this together."    Guess what I'll have by the time I get home from elections tomorrow...   besides my very own live-in personal water trainer :)  At the risk of sounding whiny, if you are a woman reading this you understand why I'd rather be accountable to a girlfriend. If you are a man, you wouldn't understand how supportive it can be to have someone who understands that when we accumulate so much information and wisdom in our heads that when there is no more room, it distributes out to the rest of our bodies.  The tighter the clothes get, the more cultured and educated obviously have become.

All kidding aside, I'm glad I have someone who cares that much about me.  Honest.  And I know it would not hurt to show my appreciation more for Ken's closeness. Yet  I have another in my life who is even closer.  Elohim K'rovim - The Close God - and I love these verses - "What other nation is so great as to have their gods near them the way the LORD our God is near us whenever we pray to him?" (Deuteronomy 4:7 )and Psalm 145:18 The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.

He is here - in every 'room' in my life - and my kitchen too.  He does not impose himself upon us but is there nearby waiting for us to call on Him - pray to Him.  I wonder if I also appreciate His closeness as much as I should.  One more verse explains it simply and well: James 4:8 "Draw close to God, and God will draw close to you."  What a privilege we have to draw close to the Almighty.

Ruby Tuesday's again today.  Several appointments nearby and we enjoyed it last time..  I took the suggestion of the waitress and ordered the roasted chicken pieces instead of the grilled chicken.  Much better and you can see it is a huge portion so dinner tomorrow will happily be as tasty as today's :)    This is called Chicken Bella, from baby Portabella mushrooms and sauce smothering the chicken. Double veggies instead of potatoes, and the salad bar...at least 20 choices. Perhaps I'll count them next time.

Nice article and good analogy! My husband is a few years from retirement, so I am pondering what that may be like for us.

Your interest in writing, as well as food for the spirit and healthy food for the body, is right up my alley!
