Hey, I'm getting better at eyeballing the proper portions of food. I was pleased to know I didn't have to buy anything as I have a 'portion control chart" built in! It's my hand :)
The palm of my hand (uh, uh -- no fair counting the fingers) - size and thickness equals a protein portion. One fist is equal to a cooked vegetable or fruit portion, and two fists, a raw vegetable portion. Fat is allowed of course, in moderation, and that is the size of the thumb.
God has created us with certain capacities (interesting that we most often exceed the physical but not the spiritual capacity!) I couldn't decide which verse, so selected two for today's thought:
Psa. 16:5 LORD, you have assigned me my portion and my cup; you have made my lot secure.
Of course this verse is not just speaking about food - but our portion in life, and our cup of grace. It is comforting as I go through the valleys of life's circumstances to know for certain that the Lord has assigned my portion in life. As the song says even if I can't see his hand, or can't understand, I can trust His heart, because He has promised all He brings and allows in my life is for my good.
Psa. 73:26 My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
Though I am attempting to follow God's leading each day, my heart has the capacity of free-will and choice and so my emotions (what I feel) may sometimes control my actions instead of the truth (what God says) and my heart would fail me. My flesh - well I've also trained that to expect sugar at the end of every meal, and sometimes it will call out, "Didn't you forget something? Hello! Over here...) It is encouraging to know that even if (ok, ok, when) I fail, God is my strength. He will get the heart going again, pick me up, dust me off, give me a hug, and put me back on the path. He is STILL my portion - He is my portion FOREVER. He will not change. His character is not dependent on my behavior. I'm so thankful for that.
Breakfast: Finished the breakfast Ezekiel bread pudding with 1/2 grapefruit
Lunch: Chop Suey with Bragg's Amino Acids (sounds strange but if you've never had it you could become addicted like I have). Far better tasting than Worcestershire or Soy Sauce. Nothing like the smell of hamburger, onion, water chestnuts and celery cooking in Braggs. Yum. LaChoy rice noodles sprinkled on top. I meant to use some dried onion crisps but forgot - that would have been wheat free too :( Side bread is same as yesterday. Ken had not tried the bread before... and he approaches new food as though he were Inspector Columbo. I love it when I hear him say, "Hey, this is really good."
Couscous replaced the traditional rice, as Ken doesn't care for rice.
Dinner: Still full from big lunch, I had snackies - celery and peanut butter, yogurt, and finished the Tuna-Salmon salad.
