Oh, how many diet gurus, nutritionists, health people who say they have the 'right' way to eat, or to exercise or to live. It seems that millions want to be told the right thing, as every time a new 'proven' method is produced and advertised, people flock to buy the books, the supplements, the details.
And how many of those ads have those tiny words at the bottom 'not typical results'. Why don't they advertise typical results? Because not so many people would be interested in purchasing any more. Most, it seems, want to believe we are the exception.
What does the Bible say about those of us who have in the past believed those ads - that we are not typical and have the possibility of being the exception, and have invested small fortunes only to prove that we were wrong? "1Cor. 10:13 But remember that the temptations that come into your life are no different from what others experience," NLT - or as another version reads - Common.
If I want to be right there is only one place I can go - to Yashar - the Just One. Isaiah 26:7 states "The way of the righteous is smooth; O Upright One, make the path of the righteous level." When I first read this, I thought what? Our path is not "smooth", but then looking at the translation found it meant the 'other' meaning of the word smooth - slippery, then prays that the only one who can - the Just One will smooth out that road and make it level." Yashar also means straightness, honest, upright, right. We want to choose the right path, make the right choices, have the right diet. Because we have given the Just One control of our lives, He is within us and consequently we want to do what's right. That is a longing for Yashar - the Just and Right One. Farther down in that chapter, the Psalmist echoes our cry, O Lord, we have waited for thee eagerly; Thy name, even Thy memory, is the desire of our souls. Why stray when we can eat at the table of the Master of the Universe?
