Whew. Sometimes life is so crazy, hectic, I just long for a quiet space. I almost don't want to read the news these days unless I fill up on the Word first. The soldiers, sailors, marines, airforce staff have such a claim on my heart. The people of Israel, the defenseless babies facing abortion, the Christians who put their life in danger by aligning themselves to Christ - there so many that are wrongly facing danger and terror. I'm so glad to know I don't have to be the Warrior - the Indiana Jones or Superwoman or the-one-responsible-to-figure-it-all-out. I have a Warrior who will fight on their behalf and on my behalf.
Ish Milchamah (eesh - meel-ch-ahmah) is the name of My Warrior. Like the song that Carmen used to sing - my warrior is THE Champion - THE Conqueror. Jeremiah, in 20:11, tells of receiving great persecution because of his relationship with the Lord, yet says if he would try to stop speaking the Lord's name, it becomes like fire shut up in his bones and he cannot endure it. He acknowledges that he has terror on every side yet responds confidently, saying, "But the LORD is with me like a dread champion; Therefore my persecutors will stumble and not prevail." Later in verse 13 a victory song -"Sing to the LORD, praise the LORD! For He has delivered the soul of the needy one From the hand of evildoers."
Though we cannot always see it, we are in a war. We need a valiant Warrior to fight the unseen enemy. It is interesting to watch the groups across America and the world who raise up in arms when they hear the name of Christ. They shout that He does not exist, and then they accuse Christ-followers of being a danger to those who do not believe. Why expend such energy, anger and effort against someone or something they believe does not exist? Whether they understand it or not, I sometimes think the enemy is more engaged in realizing that the war is a spiritual war - a war of principalities and powers. My Warrior Ish Milchamah is the one to dread and be in awe of. Though I have many battle heroes that I admire and appreciate for fighting the physical side of this battle, the Warrior referred to in Jeremiah has won the ultimate battle for me and for the battle heroes too.
So what does he want from me? To step back and let Him be the warrior - to fight my battles, or more accurately to stake His claim on territory He has already purchased back.
Out to eat today - Charcoal Grill. Very delicious salad - nice mixture of greens, iceberg, tomatoes and cukes. The honey-mustard dressing was delicious too :) Maybe I should have stopped there, but ordered lunch:
Rotisserie chicken with potato (baked and mashed yams), and roasted vegetables.
The table was also served with a loaf of warm soft bread accompanied by honey-cinnamon butter. Even the kids loved the sweet butter.
The portions were large for me. I cut the potato and chicken immediately so I can see the portion I will take home. I liked the half white potato mashed with some of the yam mixed in. Colorful, tastier than plain white potato, yet that nice salty crust. The thigh was very juicy but the skin (which I remove) on the drumstick was a little charred and I did not like the added 'flavor' to that portion of the meat.
Looks like I'm appreciating color more, as the best part of the meal besides the salad were the roasted veggies and the yams.
