I never thought I'd tire of eating - or driving - and long for the quiet of my computer, but here I am - home again. Rather than try to enter all those missed days I'll list some highlights and add a few photos followed by a post of a few recipes and pictures, then start up anew on Thursday after another trip to Michigan.
After visiting Becky we headed to Benita's in South Carolina. Unfortunately I forgot to turn the camera on during lunchtime which was a lovely salad of reds and greens with strawberries, chicken, and pecans and a wonderful home-made strawberry salad dressing. Dessert was a chocolate 'volcano' - one of the best gluten free desserts any of us have ever had. Recipes forthcoming.
Lasagne and Salad with Dessert Heaven at Virginia's in Tennessee (Samples of three desserts and our personal chocolate bunnies above).
Happily, we stopped off Highway 51 in Missouri at Lambert's - home of the throwed rolls! What a hoot. We highly recommend your stopping at this unique antique decorated lively restaurant. My entree was the bowl of Kielbasa and sauerkraut, but it came with three sides (pineapple salad, applesauce and beets were my choices) AND the "pass-arounds" which are giant silver bowls hawked by lively young waiters - fried okra, chicken, fried potatoes, black-eyed peas, tomatoes and pasta etc. All were accented by the huge, fluffy, warm, melt-in-your-mouth Lambert rolls - which were lobbed at the request of a raised hand from wherever that server was located - across the room or across the aisle. We had an evening to remember from good food, good laughs, great personal service and a warm and fun atmosphere. A must stop!
On the way home at daughters - healthy fare enhanced with fresh picked herbs - mmm I love tarragon. A perfect accent to the turkey burger, fresh fruit, Laurie''s black-bean salsa and blue corn chips. Yum!
Cousin-in-law Myrna made a childhood favorite (above) Polenta and Rabbit Stew - a long awaited meal that brought a joyful smile. Other meals were at the nursing home (scalloped potatoes, ham and green beans), Pine Cone Restaurant (baked potato and cod), and home again below (baked chicken oregano and asparagus) cooked only because I still had company. I am SO ready for a fast :)
