Days 215 - 222 - Choose Life!

These words are a portion of a verse from Deuteronomy 30:19 “…I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live.”  It struck me that this phrase can relate to so many parts of life.
· Jesus – He said, “I am the way, the truth, the life – no one comes to the father,
but by me.” – choose life (more abundant now and eternal)

· Unexpected pregnancy – choose life.

· A medical treatment that can prolong life with quality – choose life

· Depression and sadness – thoughts of suicide – choose life.

· Exercise to strengthen the heart and body – choose life

· Credit card use without funds to pay will also increase stress – choose life

· Food of course in choosing processed foods or whole food – choose life!

What are some examples of choosing life with our eating?

1) Buy fresh as frequently as possible and only enough so the food will not spoil.

2) Don’t eat food that has begun to spoil, or cut off the spoiled portion and eat the rest

3) Wash foods that have had pesticide application – don’t just use water either – use appropriate products or put ½ tsp. of hydrogen peroxide in a gallon of water

4) Read the ingredients –  buy as low a level of processing as possible. Daisy sour cream for example contains one ingredient – sour cream. It is amazing after reading that to look at other containers and see the list of unnecessary ingredients that do nothing for the product or your health

5) Grow herbs and add fresh crushed to your food or keep ground herbs in the freezer.

I could go on and on and maybe I will another time – but for now here are some samples of food from the past few days on the road again.

Spinach and Mushroom Quiche, Fresh Pineapple and cherries.  Delicious and not a processed food in sight.   My daughter, the health food chef!

Next a fun meal at Minoqua Brewery - Half a smoked turkey sandwich with orange-date-cranberry cream cheese, and a side of sweet potato fries.   Exciting treat for the taste buds!

Back at daughter Laurie's, a wonderful filling breakfast I'd not tried before, but will again; Rolled Barley (cooks similar to oatmeal) with chopped strawberries, 2 Tbsp. of Greek Yogurt and drizzled with a little Maple Syrup.  Oh, my, love breakfast again!

I should have listed buffets as a place to choose life as well :)

Golden Corral restaurants are found in several states and have many wonderful choices - here are Rotisserie Chicken, Marinated Onions and Sweet Peppers, several veggies, a couple of onion rings, a piece of fish (chose lightest breading).
