A year at THE LORD'S TABLE

Why do you spend your money on junk food, your hard-earned cash on cotton candy? Listen to me, listen well: Eat only the best, fill yourself with only the finest. Pay attention, come close now, listen carefully to my life-giving, life-nourishing words. I’m making a lasting covenant commitment with you, the same that I made with David: sure, solid, enduring love. Isaiah 55:2-3 -the Message

To Fly Again – by Gracia Burnham with Dean Merrill

During their ordeal as hostages of the Abu Sayyaf from May 2001 to June 2002, Martin and Gracia Burnham lived a life of dual captivity. They were kidnapped bodily and held hostage by a terrorist group; yet God’s grace also held them captive and brought times of comfort, uplift, protection and guidance. The story of their captivity, Gracia’s rescue and Martin’s death were told in the best selling book In the Presence of My Enemies.

Since returning home to raise her three children Gracia has become a popular speaker - sharing her reflections on the many crises she and Martin experienced as well as gems she has gleaned in her present life as a widowed woman of faith. Both are shared in To Fly Again.

One of the quotes on the book’s cover says it well “ Gracia Burnham offers no pat answers to the problem of pain, just incredible insights into the heart of a God who never turns a deaf ear to our cries for help and never wastes our experiences.”

Written in a captivating manner, Gracia and Dean have combined a gift of storytelling with the authenticity of real-life experience. Gracia has the wounds, but is more interested in sharing the steps of her own healing and to help others ‘to fly again” despite the tragic circumstances of many of her reader’s lives.

Each chapter reads like letters from a sister, each one carrying deep truths, and wrapped in the love that is only grown from one who has experienced heartbreak. Both men and women have said they found the easy readability, profound truths and amazing experiences made it difficult to put the book down.

From flashbacks, to admitting weaknesses, she shares of finding God’s power to apply scriptures in a personal way, and allowing God to help her (and her readers) rise above circumstances. Gracia humbly dispels the image of a super-human missionary, and yet takes you on a personal journey of inspiration, service, victory and hope. As she was challenged and changed, you also will find new wings to fly again.
