Day 21 - Voices

Here I am at niece Suzette's after a 6-1/2 hour drive... just a little harrowing through Chicago and only three "recalculating" messages from my GPS.

On the way I heard the little voice calling for Baked Lays (haven't had them in awhile as one serving makes me wheeze - they contain modified food starch which has wheat).  Found them when I stopped for gas, and got the smallest bag.  I ate the portion that satisfied me, and set them aside. As I continued driving, though, that little voice kept saying - the rest of the bag is over there... might as well finish them...  and those little voices made me angry.  Why, I wondered, did I ever allow a couple of processed potatoes to have had control over my spirit?   After a drink of water, music, and a talk with the voice of the Holy Spirit that said moderation is the key, I'm happy to say the rest of the chips are still there in my car.  Awhile back a young man named Joel Weldon wrote a song that said, "I don't want to be bound, by anything but you, LORD."  There's the underlying reason why I am doing The Lord's Table for a year - to put myself under God's grace and sustaining power to not be overcome by gluttony or addiction.  Proverbs 3:6, in The Message, a paraphrase, renders this verse as, "Listen for God's voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he's the one who will keep you on track."

This little battle may seem silly to any who have not had the experience to be controlled by one of the big four.  Sugar, refined bleached salt, white fat, and caffine are all addicting.  Now that I know my body can be conditioned to actually crave the stuff, I am working on eliminating the item or removing the controlling power from my life.  This is done by replacing. The first one I felt God speak to me about was sugars like high fructose corn syrup, and refined sugars (replaced these two with stevia/agave nectar/honey and Xylitol).  The next one was refined bleached salt. (replaced with Celtic salt).  Did you know even that nice white sea salt has been bleached?   It was humbling today to realize that salt can still be used to try to entice me off God's path, and it was also humbling to realize God cares about even such 'little' things in my life.

Breakfast : Boiled egg, carrots, grapefruit.  Isn't the Stayfit a nice container!  It works great for travel around town or a longer trip like today.

Lunch:  Turkey rolled around cheese stick and 1/3 of dill pickle.  (Found pickles with no corn syrup at Save U Foods), boiled egg, half an apple.

Dinner: California veggies and grilled chicken strips.
Late night snack:  1/3 of a Raw Revolution bar.
