I have been known to also have too much food in the house, buying things in bulk, and making too much of something. For example, if we have company and I make a dessert, I have to try not to make a large batch, because then guess who ends up in trouble. Remember Y2K? Rumors of shortages were frightening people and many were stockpiling for an emergency that never occurred. It is good to be prepared and to have some extra things on hand, so we can always be ready to serve or help others, but I know I need to beware of buying or making too much.
Matthew 6:19 reminds us "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
An interesting thing has happened since I began The Lord's Table - I'm not as interested in filling up my pantry shelf with food - and my family has been surprised, but figured out why. Food is no longer my treasure. Sure I like it, (even need it), but you can tell I love to cook tasty, appealing and attractive dishes. But it no longer is first in my life.
Today as a matter of fact, we first had the refrigerator blocked and I forgot I brought my breakfast food along, grabbed a banana and went to work.
Chocolate Cashew. So far the best snack bars I've tasted.
Dinner: Chef's salad - lettuce, carrot, celery, tomato, chicken, turkey, ham, cranberries, sunflower seeds and cashews. Dressing: Ken's Cranberry-Walnut dressing. Side are White Corn Lime Tortilla Chips.
Suzette's kitchen is reorganized and tomorrow we will have some fun together including watching great-niece Tori Rose perform as Alice in a school play.
