I learned something new today, and perhaps there are others that didn't know you could tell if the fresh fruit or vegetable you just bought from the store is GMO - genetically modified, organic, or coonventional (pesticide laden - one fast food place actually injects the potatoes before planting so they can say no pesticide is sprayed on their plants!)
The clue is the numbers on the label - if the label begins with an 8 the produce has been genetically modified. If a 9 is the first number you see - that's Organic, and if the first number is a 4 -the product has been grown using varied pesticides - Conventional.
Now I don't just look, touch or smell for freshness or ripeness but I read those little sticky labels. It's a case of it was right there all the time, I just had to look, to read it, and then choose what I want to apply to my body.
Many Bible verses tell us we have choices in life to make - including how we will feed our body which is God's temple.
Isaiah 7:15 He will eat curds and honey when he knows enough to reject the wrong and choose the right.
Job 34:4 “Let us choose for ourselves what is right; Let us know among ourselves what is good.
We want to be careful, though, not to think we are the ones that 'accepted' or chose God. Jesus says plainly in John 15:16 “You did not choose Me, but I chose you, and appointed you, that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask of the Father in My name, He may give to you.
And really that is comforting to know that it was not my moody, emotionally varied, mostly Sanguine self that made the eternal choice. An unusual comparison would be me as a fan choosing my ultimate star - be it singer, actor, artist, politician, playwright, whatever. The average response would be, "OK so what?" Of course you'd choose that person. But to KNOW that the ultimate star looked over the audience of thousands or millions and chose me - well that is surprising and unfathomable to my finite mind.
